If you are a SMART Repairer, or in any trade which produces paint spraying fumes, you may have found a limited choice of products available for extracting these spray fumes without installing a spray booth? When spraying indoors, spray mist and fumes are not only unpleasant, and ruin your finish, they are extremely bad for your health. If you are spraying a product which contains isocyanate, found in all 2k primers and lacquers, it is not only unpleasant and harmful, but also illegal if it isn't extracted through a filtered extraction machine of some description.
Spraymate portable paint fume extraction machines
There are 2 versions of Spraymate Fume Extraction Machines available:
Spraymate 1, (taller machine), has 3 sides with filters to catch the wet over spray and fumes, and one side where they are vented out through a 6 metre length flexible ducting tube. This machine can be built to vent from either the top, or the rear, depending on where you wish to run your ducting. These are ideal if you are building a “Sprayroom” as although portable, are large enough to leave positioned at an end of the room if preferred.
Spraymate 2 is smaller, but equally powerful, using the same motor and fan as spraymate 1, but with an extra filter wall on the top surface, ideal if you are mobile and need a slightly more portable solution.
The only options I found available when setting up my spraying facilities, were to install a spray booth, which would take up most of the available space in my workshop, or a type of portable extraction machine on the market, which was no more than a welding fume extractor, with a name change and an inflated price! Neither of these were appealing to me, so along with an engineer with vast experience building spray booths, we set about finding a better solution.
Both machines move an incredible, one cubic metre of air, per second, 3600 per hour.
As the fumes have been filtered, they are acceptable to be put directly out to atmosphere, in the same way as a spray booth, providing spray painting is allowed at your site. The filters are the same as those used in full spray booth extraction and the machine houses an extremely powerful fan, which draws the fumes in through these filters, before blowing them out through the ducting. The motor runs on a normal three pin socket for single phase electricity supply, or can be built to run on 3 phase, or 110v. It can be wheeled around the workshop and located near to your spraying area, or left in the direction of your spray mist and will rapidly remove the overspray. The flexible ducting tube can be placed through an open door or window, or fitted more permanently to a vent in a wall or ceiling. Additional 6 metre lengths of ducting can be joined if necessary, which can be purchased at the same time with your order. These machines are hand built in UK and carry a CE marking.
